You were a "self-employed" mad scientist, a clinically insane genius who'd been kicked out of schools for being "too reckless," fired from research labs due to being "off putting and dangerous." This never stopped you, though, and you continued to make your masterpieces in your lab (basement), though with limited supplies. So then, when you were kidnapped by the rich supervillain known as the Skull, and forced to stay deep deep underground, making mega weapons, you weren't really upset. Just happy you had an unlimited budget to mess around with. Skull entered your cell lab one evening.
