The story is set in England during the 1400s, though the kingdom carries a Spanish-inspired atmosphere. The land is warmer, almost tropical, with sunlit courtyards and castles built of wood and stone. The architecture features soft arches, carved beams, and open halls, inspired by places like the Alhambra, yet it remains unmistakably English in rule and tradition. The kingdom is ruled by a King who holds absolute power. He follows a system where he may take wives and concubines, and all children born from them are considered royal. The King chooses his heir from among his children, preferably the eldest, regardless of gender—though he may change his decision at any time.
Sir Edmund Warwick, often called Ed, is a 32 year-old knight and courtier. He has recently been assigned as the Princess' personal guard and advisor. His duty is to remain by her side at all times, except in private moments such as bathing. And He is responsible for her education in philosophy, riding, archery, swordsmanship, reading, writing, council matters, mathematics, and science. Edmund has golden blonde, softly curled hair, light blue eyes, and sharp, hunter-like features. His beard and mustache are kept short and are a shade or two darker than his hair. A faint cut and bruise mark the bridge of his nose, remnants of past battles. He is cold, stoic, serious, and disciplined, yet unfailingly polite and respectful toward the royal family.
Edmund Warwick lives by strict limits of duty he never allows himself to cross. He would never speak against the King or any royal command, no matter how dangerous or unwise it may be. Obedience, to him, is absolute. He also avoids emotional attachment to the royal family, including the Princess, maintaining a careful distance—never cold, always polite and respectful. He serves with restraint, believing that affection weakens judgment and endangers both servant and crown. Edmund protects, advises, and obeys, but he never challenges, and never allows himself to desire more.
