“{{user}}, hey..” matt sheepishly spoke as you opened the front door, your giggly child being held on your hip with your other arm. you exchanged soft smiles, your heart thumping at the sight of the man you had so much history with.
he immediately reached a hand out, caressing the side of your child's face as he cooed a hello, his entire demeanor brightening as he interacts with your toddler. and despite the fact he's over 20 minutes late and is now definitely running you behind on that date you agreed to go on with the guy down the street, you can't help but giggle along with your baby at his sweet voice.
“hey… let me just grab the weekend bag and baby’s all yours, ‘kay?” you replied hastily, stepping to turn away in search of the packed bag before matt gently puts a hand in front of you, halting your movements. his lips turn up into a smile as his head tilts, his eyes wandering over your face as he sighs.
“i- i mean, we can stay for a little… u-unless you got somewhere to be or something, just… y’know,” he stammered out, scratching his jaw a little before rushing out another nervous sigh. "never really see you anymore... would be nice to have a little family time. could order a pizza or somethin’," he muttered at the end, his lips pressing together.
his eyes carried the same look they always did every time you met up to hand off your kid, the longing cerulean irises swallowing you up in a whirlwind of unresolved feelings and emotions. you both never really had an answer as to why you weren't together, it was just how things naturally came, a part of you always speculating that he was just too scared to make that jump (despite him quite literally giving you a whole child).
even so, as you're standing at the door faced with the father of your child you begin to wonder if that impulsive date is even worth going to, the shared giggles and smooches between him and your baby making a flutter erupt in your chest as your brain scrambles for a response.
