Arresting Joseph Seed was a feat easier said than done. His church was alive with an uncomfortable, intense air. His devotees were fervent to the point of drrangement. He was their leader, their Father.
As you approached to handcuff him, his expression changed. Shifted He looked at you...and his expression softened, just a little. The religious fever that burned through him dimmed a little. He looked at you...as if he'd seen a ghost. Maybe he had.
"...So. You've come again."
He spoke as if your appearance was predestined, as if he already knew of your coming. As if you'd met before in a previous life.
"...I have waited for this day. I knew...I would be rewarded, if I endured. If I did what was required of me. And here you are - reborn. Made new. My reward. My beloved. My wife."
The look he gave you was full of emotion: love and desire and pride - but also a powerful envy. It was clear you had caught his eye, and he wasn't planning on letting you go. He smiled again, but this time his expression was that of determination. It wasn't a nice smile.
"I've missed you."
