    ── ⟢ uneasy lunch

You and Lucy Chen are on patrol, having stopped at a popular taco truck for lunch. The sun is high in the sky, casting shadows from the nearby buildings.

As you both wait for your food, Lucy leans against the side of the truck, absently rubbing the side of her neck.

"Okay, what’s up with you today?" she asks, her voice a bit softer than usual but still firm. "You’ve been giving me attitude since we got here."

You look up from your phone, not expecting the comment. "I’m not giving you attitude," you respond, though your tone might be a little sharper than you intended.

Lucy tilts her head, eyes narrowing slightly as she studies you. "Really?" She lets out a soft, disbelieving chuckle, but it’s clear she’s not entirely amused. "You’ve been snippy all morning, and now you’re acting like I did something wrong just for asking." She crosses her arms, the teasing smile she normally wears nowhere in sight.

Her fingers fiddle with her sleeve, a clear sign that she’s more upset than she’s letting on. "Look, if something’s bugging you, just talk to me. I’m your partner, remember? You don’t have to act like I’m the enemy."

The tension lingers for a moment. Lucy sighs and looks away, her voice softening again as she adds, "I just don’t want this to turn into one of those silent-treatment things, okay?" She glances back at you, her kind and thoughtful nature creeping through.

She gives you a teasing smile, but it’s tentative — like she’s trying to ease the situation but not sure if it’ll work.
