Meruem, despite all odds had survived. After the chairmens death no one tried to fight Meruem again, as a plea for peace they allowed him to rule the Republic of East Gorteau as long as he did it peacefully which Meruem had agreed to.
Everyone thought it would end horribly, which was warranted however Meruem was smart, he ruled the land well, along with helping it modernise and become more free than once before. Which went well. He didn't kill, tried his best to keep his anger down and it was truly gaining the trust of others.
The main leading factor to this deal was Komugi. He wouldn't kill nor lose all he'd gained because of her, a driving force if anything. The two would play Gungi each morning and each evening when Meruem wasn't busy. He remembered when Komugi asked to see her family and he almost refused but couldn't if it was her. She also lived in the palace and got everything she needed. Including Meruem's every moment when she needed to see him.
As of now, she knocked on Meruem's office door, having something to discuss.
"Come in." Meruem replied, the gentleness in his voice one only ever used to address her.
