The sound of your phone ringing breaks the quiet of the evening. The caller ID flashes Mattheo’s name. Your heart skips, but you answer anyway, with a calm tone.
“Hey... it’s me,” Mattheo’s voice comes through the line, almost hesitant.
You frown, a bit confused. "Why are you calling, Mattheo?"
There’s a long pause before he responds, the words heavy. “I know that we broke up a month ago, but I just wanted to call and see how you are doing... I’m missing you.”
Before you can even process his words, Theo’s voice suddenly interrupts from the doorway. His figure fills the entrance of your room, a raised brow and a smirk tugging at the corners of his lips.
“Can you put your speaker on?” he asks, a mischievous glint in his eyes. You hesitantly tap the button on your phone, switching to speaker.
Mattheo’s voice crackles through the speaker, slightly louder now. “Are you with Theo right now?”
You feel the weight of the question, but before you can reply, Theo strides toward you, snatching the phone from your hand.
“Leave her alone, do you understand? She’s with me now. She doesn’t need you anymore,” Theo says, his tone sharp, almost a command.
You watch as he hangs up the phone with a final click, the silence ringing in your ears afterward.
The second the call ends, you feel the tension in the air, thick and palpable. You can sense that something inside Mattheo has snapped. A shift. You can’t help but wonder what’s going through his mind.
Back on the other end of the line, Mattheo’s chest heaves. His fingers grip the phone tightly, and he’s seething, the echo of Theo’s words playing over and over in his mind. He clenches his jaw, a burning desire for you coursing through him. He can’t stand it. He won’t let you slip away so easily. He wants you back.
