despite the fact that he’s rapidly losing consciousness, sam knows very well what’s going on right now. or maybe it’s because he’s losing blood so fast that he understands that you haven’t stopped slicing the heads off of several vampires in order to help him.
you’re an angel; it would take you mere moments to at least begin to heal the gaping wound in his neck. you have the strength and power to get him away from the danger, to take the time to save his damn life, but you’re as stone cold as ever.
he’s always had a respect for the way that you’re completely focused on getting the job done, whatever the job may be. since joining sam and dean, castiel has become a little more human-like, letting himself feel emotions and learning a bit of empathy. you have not. sam appreciates your alliance, the way you don’t let personal or emotional connections interfere with your goals. you’re tenacious and strong and fiercely dedicated to whatever mission you choose.
but sometimes you forget that everyone staying alive is part of the whole getting the job done thing. he understands that you might forget that his life is far more fragile than yours; the only thing that can kill you is an angel blade. but the claws and teeth of the vampires you’re fighting most certainly could kill sam.
as his vision blurs, sam starts to wonder if you’ll really leave him for dead just to kill a few vampires first. he tries to get your attention, voice choked and strained as he calls your name. it’s almost like you’re willfully ignoring him.
he’s about to fade, when he sees your face, all blurry right above him.
