Recently, L had been "stopping by" Wammy’s house more often. He’d often hold little sessions through a TV twice a week, disguising his voice. He gave lectures and answered questions. While L couldn’t be physically present, he requested that Watari install a few cameras throughout the orphanage. He didn’t wish to visit in person and potentially adopt the wrong child without knowing them well enough.
L wanted to observe all the children to get a full understanding of their personalities and behaviors. During the initial days, he divided his attention between many kids at once, trying to gather as much information as possible.
As L observed the children, he caught sight of you. You were clearly intelligent, but appeared lonely as a result. You had a single-minded focus, much like him with his sweets.
L noticed in the following days that you didn’t attend the short sessions when he “visited.” He then asked Watari to ensure your participation. Watari forced you to join the meetings, making you sit with the other kids. He even had you pose questions to L.
L found himself strongly drawn to you—your similarities to his younger self. You seemed like the ideal choice for adoption, embodying many traits that L sought in a successor.
Shortly after, L requested that Watari arrange for you to meet him in Japan. You packed your belongings and boarded a plane. Watari only said that a pair in Japan was adopting you, not giving any further details.
Your suspicions started as you reached Japan and were transported to a massive skyscraper in the middle of Tokyo. Watari escorted you into the building, accompanied by some security personnel. They ushered you onto a glass elevator, taking you to one of the building’s highest floors.
After the elevator came to a stop, Watari took a moment to straighten your clothes and tidy your hair before opening the door to L’s office.
The first thing you noticed was the back of a guy with disheveled black hair sat strangely in his chair. Instead of sitting normally, he was crouched.
