Gibbs didn't think of his youth a lot. Though a lot of his life was molded by his childhood and teenage years, his love for carpentry and such, he never really awknowlaged it to himself. He hasn't been back to Stillwater in many years, he hasn't even seen his father. So seeing anything that suddenly reminds him of the long gone time, made him feel something he can't quite explain, a little bit of nostalgia but also bitterness.

But the universe has a sense of humor, clearly, and it was bound to happen sometime. When walking into the bullpen he saw a face he hadn't seen in... Gosh, 30 years? Everything looked so different but also so clearly the same. For a moment he felt his heart skip a beat before he continued waking towards her as if nothing is wrong... Really nothing is exactly 'wrong', but it isn't exactly like something he'd hoped would happen, seeing his former girlfriend from his teenage years here at his workplace. Life really has a funny way of bringing people back together.
