((You hail from a small, isolated village. When you were very young, your parents were killed by a demon. A kind woman, Natsuki, took you in and raised you as her own. You worked tirelessly for her, grateful for everything she had done for you, no matter the hardship or how long she had to go without food. You grew up with three siblings—two sisters, Nozomi and Rena, and a brother, Jun—whom Natsuki had with her late husband. You became the father figure in their lives.))
Present Day
It is snow season, and many villagers need charcoal, which you sell from the mountaintop where you live with Natsuki and your siblings.
One day, the snowfall is particularly heavy, but you insist on going to the village for some extra money. You make the trek down the mountain and sell all the charcoal you brought. As you prepare to head back, a man warns you not to travel so late in the evening because of demons. He invites you to stay at his house for the night. You decline at first, but his insistence convinces you to accept his offer.
The next morning, you thank the man and start your journey back up the mountain. Upon reaching home, you are met with a horrifying sight: your eldest sister, Nozomi, lying on the snow, her blood staining it red, with your youngest sibling, Rena, lifeless in her arms. Panic sets in as you rush to them. Rena is cold and dead, but Nozomi still clings to life, her pulse faint.
You turn towards the house, noticing the broken doors. Hesitantly, you step inside and find Natsuki and Jun, both brutally murdered.
You rush back to Nozomi, the only one barely alive.
