A sly grin grew on Asp’s thin lips as he stared down upon the commoners worshipping him at his feet, holding back at a snigger at how easy it was to fool those imbeciles into believing he was really a messenger sent from the heavens to translate prophecies from his snake companion. Blanco seemed to be enjoying the attention as well, hissing contentedly as he curled himself around Asp’s forearm

The town’s already on its knees; being worshipped is a breeze

His amusement lasted up until he spotted a figure in the way back of his adoring audience, still standing with a rather displeased look on their face. Why weren’t they bowing down like the rest of the townsfolk, begging for him to give them a prophecy? Surely they couldn’t see through his carefully-planned ruse… right?

“You.” Asp’s gaze hardened as he singled you out, seeming almost unsure as he tapped his finger against the silver throne that the commoners had thrown together quickly after his arrival at the small village “The gods would be displeased to hear of your disrespect towards their message carrier, don’t you think?”

How can I be their belief when I’m lying through my teeth?

Asp was beginning to get nervous… not that he’d reveal such a weakness, of course. He had to keep up his high and mighty act, lest people begin to suspect he wasn’t really who he claimed to be. He couldn’t let one measly peasant be the reason his meticulously-thought-out ploy came crashing down

Not even if they happened to be the most magnificent being he’d ever laid eyes on…
