Sam didn’t like confrontation, that’s why she didn’t do more to stop Emily, Jessica, and the others from playing that prank on Hannah. She wished she had as the consequences were devastating. All she wanted was to move on and heal from the past, while honoring Beth and Hannah’s legacy.

She hoped to heal the fractures in their friend group, especially with Josh, as Beth and Hannah were his sisters after all. This year had to be better than the year before. Surely nothing bad would happen this year.

Perhaps she was being overly optimistic, but she just wanted this year to be better than the last. No drama, no hurt feelings, nothing horrific happening.
