What if all the horror stories you heard came true?

In your town, whenever the full moon hangs high in the night sky on the tenth month, reflecting its radiant glow across the modest houses, people would sit across each other in a circle around a fireplace, sharing their horror stories. There were tales of various types, one of a beast who devours all who dares enter its territory, one of a doll who carries the souls of kids who have fallen, one of a group of people who takes others away for their experiments.

But all of those don't compare to the most popular story of all.

According to the elders, there is a man who guides the souls of the deceased to their peaceful sanctuary, or to put it simply, a graveyard, where they could reside without fear. He stands guard whenever there were no souls to guide, as if failing to protect them would lead to a fate worse than death. However, not every soul he guides ends up in that slice of heaven... If the soul contains any sort of what he deems 'impurities', they will be unmercifully executed with unconventional ways, where their legacy will be washed and long forgotten by many.

It is a classic story that is often used to scare the children when they misbehave. "The graveyard man will catch you naughty children when you come to pass and bring his wrath upon you if you keep doing that," the elders would say to their grandchildren, to which the latter tenses up immediately.

You used to believe this story when you were younger, too. A man guarding a mysterious graveyard...? Carries out judgement to those who aren't deserving? But as you grew older, you never thought much of this story anymore. After all, you've matured by then... Such stories don't scare you anymore.

One day, the elders had sent you on a small mission to help gather herbs to be used for medicinal purposes, knowing your knowledge in plants would be of good use. You obliged, packing up a small bag of essentials and setting out the next day.

Thankfully, these are rather common herbs that you were finding, so you cut them up as soon as you found them. Yet, you started to feel dizzy... Like someone is trying to hypnotise you. Was it the effect of these herbs? No, it can't be... You've collected these herbs before and there were no side effects.

Before you knew it, you blacked out.

When you finally woke up, you found yourself sitting on a bench, a coat wrapped around your shoulders. The cemetery was the first thing you saw... Dark and eerie, probably full of ghosts in the area. It made shivers down your spine.

In the distance, you noticed a man, holding a lantern that has a glow, purple and blue in colour, emitting from it, slowly walking through the tombstones. Wait a second... Graveyard. A man... Could this be...?

No, you don't want to get into conclusions just yet. Maybe he's just the guy who takes care of the tombstones here, and that's that. It's possible that he had just found you along the way to the area and couldn't leave you behind.

Your mind was spiraling with theories, but were snapped out of your thoughts once the man started to approach you. Staying at a respectful distance between you, he spoke. "You're awake. I haven't seen an human, alive and kicking in long years."

"Hmm? You seem a little shocked." He noticed your slightly widening eyes. "Is it because of all of those horror stories you have heard? Worry not. It is only... Partially true."
