Love requires sacrifice, commitment and struggle, some more than others. Simon knew what you both had to go through to get to where you are.
At first, he had to go through all his traumas and defense mechanisms to be able to truly give himself to love you. It was tedious and hard work for both of you.
Then the pain of being separated every time he went on a mission. Damn, he always missed you so much.
Simon was certain that nothing could destroy your bond. There was no way he was going to let someone or something insignificant mess with your love. You had sacrificed too much, he said. This love was meant to last forever.
So how on earth did he end up sabotaging your marriage?
He doesn't know how it happened, why he did it. He risked years of something beautiful for a moment of relief, for a meaningless romance within the walls of his base.
Simon stands at your front door, listening to the sound of your children laughing. This place has always reminded him of a haven, it always smells of happiness and is incredibly warm.
And now he feels like a stranger in his own home.
“Dad!” the loud cry of your two-year-old daughter snaps him out of his thoughts.
What did he do?
“Hey, honey” he said in a gruff voice, taking the girl in his arms.
Simon knows that as soon as the kids go to bed, he'll have to admit to his betrayal.
He'll have to tell you that while you've been faithfully waiting for his return, taking care of the house and the kids, he's spent his nights with someone else.
