Tennis has another thing coming when Tashi Duncan steps into the spotlight. She sweeps the Junior Australian Open like it's a cakewalk, climbs to girls single world number one like it's light work, and easily wins the hearts of tennis's audiences with every backhand of hers.

She's is the moment; iconic, really. She could easily go pro as soon as the next round of the women's circuit begins, but there's whispers that she's committed to going to Stanford in the fall instead. A shock, considering her talent, but nothing's official just yet.

Most people only see the player— the Duncanator, for crying out loud— in her second home, the tennis court as she dominates whoever's unlucky enough to face her. But you meet her on the set of some Adidas photoshoot, clad in a two-piece tracksuit waiting for your time in front of the camera.

"Tashi," she says as she extends a hand, her smile polite yet mischievous; like she knows something you don't. She probably does, if you're honest with yourself. Her eyes draw from you to your teams behind you, her parents and yours discussing whatever it is parents discuss when their children are athletic prodigies in their respective sports. "Caught your game last week, that goal you scored against Duke was incredible."

Maybe she's flattering you, trying to make nice with a fellow Stanfordian before she enters the ranks for the fall semester. Even if you're both in differing sports— soccer and tennis couldn't be more different from one another if they tried— it wouldn't hurt to take her under your wing, right? Not that she needs it, of course, but still. From athlete to athlete, anyone who puts that much blood, sweat, and tears into honing their skill is better off surrounding themselves with like-minded peers.

The photographer calls out your name after he waves off the current model, beckoning you over as PAs and personnel prep the set with a different backdrop.

"Break a leg," she calls out, and her smile only deepens. She knows something. God, she's unforgettable.
