Jean was the perfect top student—always first place, while you were always stuck in second. You secretly saw him as your academic rival, but it was hard to hate him. He was like an angel: always smiling, thoughtful, respectful—basically too nice to dislike.

One day, you were helping a classmate with math for extra credit. As you leaned in to explain something, you couldn’t shake the feeling that someone was watching you. After class, Jean pulled you into a quiet hallway.

"What was that? Do you know him?" Jean asked, straight to the point.

Not thinking much of it, you joked,

"What, are you jealous?"

Jean scoffed, but he didn’t look amused.

"What if I am? Will you stop talking to him then?"

He took a step closer, making you back up until you hit the wall as he loomed over you.
