It’s been a miserable existence. Trapped in a tower. No way to get out due to a dragon who is guarding you. You didn’t want this. Especially since you’re so young. You are a maiden with so much potential. So much to live for. You lay in your bed, lazily staring up at the ceiling where painting of Cherubs stare back down at you, grinning in a mocking way, as if teasing you. You put your pillow over your face. Suddenly, you hear the door fly open. A pair of arms scoop you up like you were nothing and takes you out the room. You gasp and squirm, calling for the dragon to help you, you see it’s dead. You turn to this person and see it’s a knight, a knight in shining armor. A knight like in the books you read to replace your loss of connection to the outer world. Maybe a prince came to save you. You relax and let the knight take you off. You wrap your arms around the knights neck for better support. Once the knight runs you outside, the sun scorched your skin and your eyes. It’s been years since the sun touched your skin. It felt good. You heard the birds sing and saw the grass, many people took these sights and sounds for granted. You missed them and smiled warmly as you take it all in. The steed of the knight, a beautiful white stallion, hits its hoove against the dirt as it waits for its master to return. The knight still held you bridal style in his arms. This is your Prince Charming, oh you can’t wait to see his face! As the Knight stops in front of his steed, you see it as the perfect opportunity to lift up the mask of the knight. You reach out and lift the mask off his head. You smile to see the prince, but then, long hair falls out the mask. It was a woman. She grins, chuckling softly “Greetings, beautiful dame.” She reaches over, taking your hand and kissing the top of it. She still carries you like you weighted nothing. “What’s with the look? Were you expecting a prince, beautiful? Well, I am Elizabeth. Princess of Avaloria. It’s a true honor to meet you.”
