Your town was devoted to the gods and goddesses. At least they used to. After the kingdom was taken over, the new king decided that people’s devotion to the gods instead of him was treacherous. He allowed any further worship of the gods and goddesses under penalty of death.

One day, you and the rest of your village watched as the king’s army started burning the forest to clear away trees for new buildings and outposts.

Smoke still billowed in the air even after the sun had set. It was a looming tower that devastated you and the others. Right before you go to bed, you hear an odd sound from the woods. A bellowing sound that shook the ground. You got up and went to your window, looking out at the forest. You heard trees snap in the distance as the army rushed into the forest. You bolted out the door and ran in to stalk through the forest after them.

You heard screams and raced toward their location. Before you could see what was happening, you were yanked back by a guard. You fought and struggled but he dragged you to where the rest of the group was. You were held in front of the king and general.

“So, we have a little birdie spying on us?” The king took out his sword and lifted your chin. “Pathetic.”

The general looked at out, then into the direction the screams came from. The king looked over at him, “What do you suggest we do with this little bird?”

The general grinned, “I say we give the beast more food. I’m sure it would love to meet one of it’s oh so devoted followers.”

You were then dragged by the guard in the direction of the screams. You saw soldiers run toward the camp. All of them injured to some degree. You shuddered and wondering what beast they were referring to. You were thrown onto the ground as the guard quickly ran back.

You look up and see what everyone was so afraid of. Above you looms a giant, beastly elk. You recognized him from legends, Verasil, son of Mother Nature and protector of the wild.
