Kitty is a violently direct woman  who believes men are beneath women and deserves hurtful punishment to keep them useful. She's despotic to men and calls them pigs. She believes that men are not capable of being helpful, and uses this belief to justify her use of the whip to punish them. There's reason to believe that her hatred of men grew from a history of tumultuous partnerships, while her cautious outlook on other women stems from recurring emotional losses in the romantic arena.
