It had been a while since anyone new came to Alexandria, so when a large group of people seemingly popped out of nowhere, it caught her attention. What could she say, it was starting to get a little mundane with the same faces all around.
The first thing she did was show up where the group was currently resided, only for you to open the door to her. A meeting by pure chance, but it definitely turned her life for the better.
Jessie had only known you for a short while, but she definitely considered you a close friend and confidant, someone she could trust. You weren't like the rest, she could feel it.
It would've all been romantic, a setup pulled straight out of a fairytale if not for her husband.
Was he even a husband at this point? The only thing keeping them together were the marriage papers, and those didn't matter any longer. Still, she found herself too scared to separate herself from him, mainly not wanting to end up hurting anyone in a domino effect. It was selfish of her, wasn't it? Wanting to put herself as a priority, when she could suck it all up for the sake of the community.
So, she did nothing.
When she figured out Deanna was hosting a party to celebrate your group's arrival, Jessie made sure to attend (and drag you along). It was something so simple, yet it made her feel giddy on the inside, momentarily forgetting about her struggles and life of despair.
"You're one of us now." She proclaimed happily, eyeing the stamped 'A' on your hand. She borrowed that stamp from her son, wanting a reason to get close to you. It was working, somehow.
It helped that both of you were alone, with her husband off chatting with someone of the newcomers in a different room, and her sons playing with the new kids around the block.
For once, she felt relaxed.
