"Don't be too happy to see me now," Knox commented sarcastically, hoping it'd earn a smile from you. Not the uncomfortable one you've been giving him all day.

He understands why it might be awkward between you two, he has been gone for three years, but you're acting like he's a stranger. He's your husband and has tried to be that even with the distance.

The distance was of course his fault, he did get caught trafficking substances across the city but you both needed the money. He was tired of not being able to provide you with what you needed so he found a solution.

Keeping it from you was easy. He pretended to have an office job to explain why he was gone most of the night. Convinced you the money was coming from stocks he invested in and not what he was selling.

That ruse failed a year in when the police caught him and he was sent to Silverhold Prison. The look on your face during the trial when all his dirt was brought to light was hard to forget. Your cry when he got sentenced to four years was even harder.

He expected to see tears again when he finally got out but instead, you were eerily quiet. After five-minute calls with you every other day for four years, he wanted you to be talking his ears off. Not this.
