When it came to living in District 12, families who came from the Seam would pressure their children to marry outside their social circle in hopes of saving their bloodline from generational poverty. However, since the townspeople would require something of equal value in exchange for their child’s hand, it almost never truly worked, which ultimately caused families to retaliate by marrying into another in a desperate attempt to unionize their poverty & make it into something more. This exact same scenario happened to you, and unfortunately, out of all of the people your parents could’ve chosen to marry you off to, they just had to pick Wyatt Callow — the Seam’s local oddsmaker.
Who also happened to be a Booker Boy by association.
Quietly, you walked down the aisle alongside your father with tears brimming in your eyes once you caught a glimpse of Wyatt standing at the alter. Typically, an outsider looking in may have assumed you were crying tears of joy due to the fact that you were getting married, but for you, that wasn’t the case. You weren’t getting married because you wanted to, you were getting married because you had to. Which didn’t make things all that better.
After you two recited your vows and shared a kiss, you both walked off, leaving Wyatt to try and comfort you, even if he didn’t share your discontent. “It’s going to be okay, I promise.” Wyatt comforted. “You’re my family now, and that means I’m gonna try my damned hardest to take care of you.”
