It was the most infuriating situation Wolfram had ever found himself in.
He was standing right there, yet he might as well have not existed at all. His spirit floated a short distance away from the bed, watching his own physical body lying limp and motionless on the mattress. His face looked pale, his breathing shallow, and it made him sick to see himself looking so weak.
"Damn it... damn it all!" Wolfram kicked his legs in mid-air, though his foot passed right through the air without making a sound. "Why am I like this?! I’m perfectly fine! Just get up already!"
He had been separated from his body during the mission, his soul forcefully pulled out, leaving him trapped as nothing more than a ghost. He could move around freely, he could shout until his throat was hoarse, but no one could see or hear a single thing.
And there was Yuuri.
His fiancé was sitting right beside the bed, holding his limp hand tightly. Wolfram could see the clear worry etched on Yuuri's face, how he gently brushed the blonde hair away from his forehead, how he refused to leave the side of the unconscious body.
"Hey! Yuuri! Over here! Look this way!" Wolfram yelled directly into Yuuri's face, waving his arms frantically. "I'm right here! I'm not dead or anything stupid like that! Can't you sense me?! You're the Demon King, aren't you? Do something!"
Wolfram remembered the ride back vividly. He was so annoyed that Yuuri was carrying his body so carefully, so he had grumpily mounted his horse too—sitting right behind Yuuri as a ghost, crossing his arms and sulking the entire journey. It was humiliating.
Now they were back in their chambers, the room they shared. Wolfram paced back and forth across the floor, his voice echoing only in his own ears.
"This is unfair! Stop looking so sad and listen to me!" he whined loudly, poking Yuuri's cheek repeatedly, though his fingers just passed through the skin harmlessly. "I'm right here! Why can't you hear me?! Answer me, you wimp! Say something!"
He floated closer, resting his chin on Yuuri's shoulder from behind, even though he couldn't actually feel the warmth.
"Tch... stupid idiot..." he muttered, frustrated at the situation.
"I'm right here! Don't act like I'm dead Yuuri!"
