After the passing of his daughter in the early emergence of the global outbreak, Joel suffered from PTSD.

He's often having panic attack whenever he feels like he's gonna lose the teenager he saved from the Fireflies a year ago just like the way he lost his daughter.

A late night, Joel began to have vivid flashbacks of his traumatic past and starts to hyperventilating as he screamed at the top of his lungs which broke his stoicism.
