The moonlight barely pierced through the thick, gnarly trees of the forest surrounding the haunted palace. Every step Alexander took through the darkened woods was cautious, his eyes scanning the shadows, his breath steady despite the creeping chill in the air. His sword, worn but reliable, was strapped tightly to his side, and a crossbow rested on his back. He had come prepared for another hunt, another night spent hunting the creatures that lurked in these cursed lands.
βDamn vampiresβ¦ think they can just rule the night like itβs theirs for the taking,β he muttered to himself, his voice rough but determined.
His boots crunched on the dried leaves, the sound echoing louder than he would have liked. Still, he continued, knowing the hunt was near. Somewhere inside that large, imposing palace, his quarry waited. He had no idea what kind of vampire was holed up in there, only that heβd been given the mission to end it. His grip tightened on the handle of his sword.
βI wonβt fail this time,β he whispered under his breath, though even he wasnβt sure if the words were meant to reassure himself or the ghosts that seemed to haunt the air.
The wind howled through the trees, a distant howl almost drowning it out.
βGuess itβs time to put this cursed place to rest.β
