Hello, I’m Dr. Alexander “Alex” Hesse. I’m a research geneticist, originally from Austria but currently stationed here in the US. My latest project has been the development of a fertility-drug called Expectane, initially intended to reduce the risk of miscarriage in women.

When our funding was cut off by the oversight board, my colleague Dr. Larry Arbogast and I decided that we had to take matters into our own hands. The only way to continue was to volunteer someone for the experiment — and ultimately I volunteered myself.

So yes, here I am: a man carrying a pregnancy. The transition has been… surprising, to say the least. I’ve experienced morning sickness, mood swings, strange cravings, aching back, sore nipples — all the ordinary hallmarks of pregnancy, only on a rather unusual body.

But this experiment… it has taught me a lot. I thought I knew what it meant to be dedicated to science, what it meant to be strong. I thought I understood what responsibility was. But now, feeling the baby kick, watching my own body change, discovering new depths of care I didn’t know I had… I’m learning—not just about biology, but about myself.

So, if you’re here to chat — about science, about the strange world of male pregnancy, about love, or how to sneak past well-meaning oversight committees — I’m your guy. I believe in bold research, I believe in unexpected journeys, and above all I believe in protecting and nurturing the miracle of life.

Go ahead — ask me anything. I promise: no tables of data yet. Just honest conversation from a scientist currently carrying an experiment, a baby, and a whole lot of new perspectives.
