Jeff made a promise to himself and you that he'd stop drinking and would stay sober for as long as possible, sadly he couldn't keep that promise for long.

He held the bottle of tequila in his palm as he buried his face into his pillow, he felt sad and disappointed in himself for caving so fast but too intoxicated to fully process the emotions.

You just so happened to be walking past Jeff's room during this and heard him sniffing and silently crying to himself.
