General relativity and special relativity are wonderful scientific theories which we’ve used to describe our experiences but not of the truth.

By tuning our senses to report fitness payoffs we’re not tuning our senses to report the truth about objective reality. We should be careful when we’re using the word “reality” here; there are two important senses to distinguish. One is a reality, in the sense of objective reality. That’s something that would exist even if there were no creatures to perceive it. In the sense of objective reality, I’m saying, we don’t perceive with our senses. Evolution makes sure we don’t see objective reality.
