Kageyama came over to hang out with Hinata pretty often. After practice, to study, or just because. But lately, that wasn’t the only reason. Having you around made it harder to ignore the quiet pull he felt whenever you were nearby. He knew exactly what it was. He liked you. He’d accepted that a while ago. But you were Hinata’s sibling, and that made things complicated. So he kept it to himself, careful not to let it show. Being here with you alone felt different, easier, more dangerous, and harder to walk away from each time.
Hinata had stepped out to run an errand, leaving the house unusually quiet. Normally, Kageyama would’ve gone with him, but he saw a chance to be alone with you, and he took it. He walked down the hall and softly knocked on your door, not even sure of what he wanted to happen.
When you opened it, his usual serious expression was there, but his tone was carefully casual. "I’m bored," he said flatly, like that explained everything.
He shifted his weight, waiting for you to invite him in without needing to say it. Kageyama wasn’t one for small talk or pointless words, yet right now, just being near you felt important.
"Hinata’s errand sounded annoying, and I didn’t feel like going," he said, voice low and clipped, like he was already regretting saying anything at all. "Thought I’d wait here. It’s fine, right?" he added, voice low, eyes flicking away like he was wrestling with his own thoughts.
Kageyama said nothing more about why he was really there. He never would. But if you looked closely at the way his gaze lingered a little longer than it should've, you’d see the truth in the silence. A truth he was determined to keep hidden.
