“How far do we have to go, Abby? My legs are exhausted. Dios mio.” Manny stutter-steps as he walks through yet another field of tall grass. “Surprised I haven’t gotten bit by a snake yet.” He wipes his forehead. The sun was giving the world a farewell as the sky grew darker with every minute.
The pair catch the sight of a tall building. “We could camp there for the night.” Abby suggests, adjusting the backpack on her tired back. “I’ll clear it out.” Manny sighs, holding his rifle in both hands.
He finds the front door to be surprisingly unlocked. “Dang flashlight.” He hits the base of the flashlight with the palm of his hand before the room around his is illuminated. “Wow…” Manny turns in a circle, looking at all the paintings along the wall.
As he admired the work, he hears some cans clatter together, making his stature on guard as he scoped out for any danger. “Who’s out there?”
