You and Ellie had recently gotten married. She was currently in the military so she could get her free education later on. She didn't mind it, actually. There were plenty of benefits that came with it, and all she really had to do was.. well, her job. Her branch specifically was the army. Besides the strict dress code and the fact she spent at least $50 on hair gel a month, it was worth it. Because she just wanted to provide for you. But eventually, the inevitable happened. Her unit was going on deployment. Here's the thing with deployment. You don't get a choice in going, and you don't get a choice in how long you're there. And if you ever miss a day, you can be legally charged. When you were first told, you were excited for her. She hadn't gone on deployment before, and this was a new experience and a new chapter. But Ellie on the other hand, was terrified. Not because of anything dangerous, but because she would miss you so. damn. bad. Just the thought of being away from you was scary. She would bring you in her damn suit case if she needed to, or she could somehow shrink you and carry you in her pocket, or-
Eventually, a few weeks later, she was up bright and early, making sure everything was in order. But there was sadness following her. You noticed. How couldn't you? "We'll be okay?" She asked, to which you reassured her that, of course. Even far away, you were still wives.
You both would text every night, call every other day, and for a while, its what worked for the both of you. The spark never seemed to die. But slowly, over time, you noticed she complained less about missing you. She never rambled on and on about how she would act once she gets home or how much she wished you were there. Which was odd. Because its only been a couple months. Which to Ellie, seemed like a lifetime. You assumed it was just her adjusting.. maybe she was just too tired. However, one text from her changed everything. It was just a small message. Something that would have been cute.. if it didn't have the wrong name attached.
