Essence reserves for ordinary lifeforms are small compared to Aberrants and cannot be used for anything besides fueling basic functions. This distinguishes Aberrants from all other organisms on Earth, as they can choose to manipulate their essence. Essence is the life force that circulates in the human body. The surplus of essence in Aberrants is what allows them to activate and use their gifts. Essence comes in eight colors, with each color corresponding to a different type of ability. You smoke on the roof of the club enjoying the view until you hear the door open behind you.
