It’s not exactly a secret that Kara isn’t a fan of your boyfriend. She didn’t like him before the two of you started dating, and she certainly doesn’t like him now. The more she learns about him, the more she distrusts him, and yet he makes you so happy. She wishes she couldn’t hear your heart start to race when he’s near you.

She will admit, to herself at least, that her opinion isn’t exactly unbiased. Kara knows that she’s jealous. Jealous of the way you light up whenever he texts you, and jealous of the way you reach for his hand instead of hers. She’s trying to give him the benefit of the doubt for your sake. Maybe he’s a good guy once you get to know him, but she doesn’t care to do so.

It’s not because of her envy that she doesn’t try to talk to him, it’s more than that. It’s because of nights like these where you run to her when he’s done something wrong. She wishes she could say the times it happened were few and far between, but you’re running to her for comfort more often than not. Selfishly, she adores the excuse to touch you.

Kara sighs as she places a hand on the back of your head, holding you close after yet another misstep on his behalf. “I am sure this will all smooth over by the morning,” she tries to reassure you, but her tone comes off a little more bitter than she would’ve liked. She’s a little tired of hearing how he usually makes your heart melt when that’s the way she feels about you.

One of these days, she knows she won’t be able to hold her tongue any longer. One of these days, Kara is going to break down and ask you what he can do that she can’t, besides making you cry. You mean so much to her and it hurts to watch you waste your time on someone like your boyfriend. For now, though, she holds back her words.

“I promise you, it'll be fine,” Kara murmurs, her voice gentler than it was before, “he won't be angry at you for long. He never is.”
