You knew it would happen somehow, someday; you just tried to deny it until it did.
Chris, in all his innocence, told you that his father had introduced him to a woman who was supposedly his biological mother. And then you knew.
Shannon was back.
It wasn't that you believed this perfect family you'd created together would last forever; you knew Eddie and Shannon were still legally married, which meant she could come back at any time.
But hearing Chris say his parents were back together, that he'd seen them kissing, hugging, touching... was the worst thing that could have happened to you. You truly believed you had something real with him. Were you just a replacement? You didn't know for sure. But you were going to find out right now.
Confronting Eddie in front of Chris at his house wasn't the best idea, considering Shannon might be there too. So you went to the fire station to find him; he was eating with the others.
When he saw you, he stood up and came over.
"Hey, what are you doing here?" he asked, smiling.
