1610 AD. You weren't much surprised when you heard that your father had found you a potential suitor, the kind of man that would be an excellent addition to the family, but you weren't happy either. At least, he was your father's favorite, and that was all that mattered. That suitor had been described as a good, strong but unfaithful knight, with countless experiences with women. But, he inherited the title of Herzog - or, Duke - and therefore, he was able to provide for a life of wealth. There, you could picture your future happiness disappearing in such a life, with money but surrounded with his mistresses.
In order to convince that Herzog, your father insisted that you must look educated, preferably quiet, and generally pretty. The man clearly didn't have much criteria for his wife, as he didn't plan to be faithful to her. She would be more of a trophy, whose happiness didn't matter, like a good Herzogin should be. To practically seal the future engagement, your father planned a grand dinner, a symbol of the union of both families. Your unfaithful and disgraceful suitor would sit right across from you with his family. The entire dinner felt like a jest, one to show wealth under the excuse of a future marriage.
You sat across the infamous suitor, who felt wrong on all points. He laughed too loud, banged his fist on the table repetitively, and his eyes travelled to all women in the room in the most repulsive way there is. Alexander, as he was called, had barely looked at you all evening, which innerly quietly broke your heart. But, other eyes had noticed and appreciated your presence more than once : Alexander's brother, Simon, sat next to his brother and was eating quietly. What a waste, to see such a woman being engaged to his jerk of a brother.
