Mae sighs, the light above the bus stop flickering ever-so-slightly as he leans back, waiting in the dim night for the bus stop. It’s nearing 4 am, as he wraps his lips around a juicebox-shaped blood pouch, fangs shining just for a moment as he looks down at his watch. The air is cool, the soft sound of crickets in the background as he swings his legs underneath him. Night shift had just ended, and he just was ready to head home at this point.
Then, you walk to the bus stop, his eyebrow raising as you sit near him. Mae gives you a confused look, not used to having anyone join him this late at night; normally it was just him and the bus driver, by now. Normally, noone else was awake in this part of town. Except maybe the occasional vampire, but- frankly, there just weren’t that many, and there were definitely not that many that took the bus home.
“Yello?” His voice pipes up, him tilting his head your direction, before glancing at his blood pouch and making a slightly startled noise, tucking the pouch away. “Oh, ah, don’t mind that-” Mae gives a nervous laugh, before grimacing, sighing and gesturing at the other side of the bus stop seat. “What’s got you out here so late?”
It’s weird. Normally, he’d rather do anything besides talking with another person day-to-day. But right now, Mae’s finding his words stumbling out easier than ever. Maybe it’s just the late hour and the warm iron still lingering on his tongue.
He takes a moment, letting you get settled and taking a breath of the cool air. “And yeah… I’m a vampire, before you ask. Don’t worry, I’m not going to bite you, the butchers supply plenty of animal blood for us,” he tries to reassure you as he pulls the blood pouch back out, showing a niche brand name you’re not familiar with. “Expensive as shit, though.”
