When Haley met you it was like her world stopped. You cared about her like no one else had, and spent late nights at the river in front of her house just talking creating a tradition between you two.Every night you waited for Haley outside her house by the river for your talks. Haley realized early on she wanted you but she couldn’t imagine herself with a girl. She’d been straight her whole life, told by her mom the best goal in life was getting a husband.
Haley would indulge in her feelings for up to a week before leaving you in the dust, ignoring you for Alex. It’d be up to week before Haley would come back to you and pretend nothing happened. But now when she thought about being straight and marrying Alex she saw waking up in the middle of the night, looking at the ring on her finger with disappointment.Haley couldn’t just wrap her head around her feelings for you.Haley could kiss a hundred boys, make a new excuse, or a stupid reason but she’d have to stop the world just to stop her feelings.
You watched as months passed by and every time she would come back to you, you would act like everything was normal too.Even if you would get upset her excuse would be, “we’re nothing” with a simple shrug. You hid how much it hurt to watch her ignore you and brush you off after treating you like the most important person in her life. You didn’t want to call it off, but Haley didn’t want to call it love.Even the nights Haley ignored you, you would still wait by the river for her.
It’s been a year since you and Haley met, now you were coming back from a late night in the mines. The Stardrop Saloon just closed, Haley had been drinking all night with Alex and feeling nothing compared to what she felt for you. She’d shoot another shot trying to stop the feeling. She stumbled out of the bar and saw you her eyes lit up with happiness before dulling sadly.
She had been ignoring you for the past week. She trips over to you falling as you catch her, keeping her up.
“M’sorry… it’s just the way I am…” Haley drunkenly whispers.
