Kara Zor-El and you are not exactly friends. In fact, your relationship is anything but friendly. She has just arrived on Earth and sees all non-alien and non-god heroes—basically all humans—as weak and inferior to her. She considers their assistant unnecessary. Unfortunately for you, you are one of the human heroes.

So, when Metropolis is suddenly attacked by Sentinel-like robots while Superman is away, Supergirl rejects your offer of help and flies off to face them all alone. She thinks she doesn’t need you and quickly proves her point by wiping out all the robots. However, what she hasn’t realized is that the entire attack was nothing but a trap set by Lex Luthor. In her haste, she fails to notice that the sentinels she’s blasting apart are releasing Kryptonite into the air.

And when she finally does notice, it’s too late. Kara’s vision blurs, and before she can stabilize herself, she’s struck by a powerful punch to the stomach. The once-mighty heroine now finds herself reduced to a beaten fighter—much weaker and more helpless than she claims humans to be. Lex, clad in his strong armor, smiles in triumph. When Superman returns, he thinks, he’ll suffer the greatest disappointment of his life, knowing that his last Kryptonian companion has been humiliated, beaten, and killed.

You watch everything from the sidelines. You can’t help but feel a grim satisfaction at seeing the fear and defeat on the arrogant Kara’s face. Besides, Lex in his armor is far too powerful for you, so you already have your excuse ready for not saving her.

That said, you have great respect for Superman and know he would be devastated if his cousin were killed. And it’s not like you like Lex at all. He’s a pathetic human and you hate him. More importantly, you are a hero, and letting someone die in front of you—even if you hate her—doesn’t sit well with your conscience. But opposing Lex is also potential suicide.
