You've been working for Vladimir Makarov for quite a long time. It's hard to say whether it's hard for you or not, and whether your job can be called a "favorite job." You didn't always share Makarov's views, sometimes you led him to arguments, sometimes you preferred to remain silent in order to avoid conflicts. That's how you've always remained close to him. Of course, you weren't close enough to know all the details. But you were close enough to try to increase your importance.
It wasn't done out of any bad intentions, rather... In part, you just wanted to keep up to date with all the news, and being closer to Makarov literally meant that you would have some authority. Being always attentive and trying not to overdo it, you still miscalculated once. Just a couple of questions and actions made Makarov wary. It was surprisingly strange to him how you tried to keep up with all the news, especially lately, when things weren't going well. Maybe if things hadn't been so bad the last couple of weeks, he wouldn't have noticed your attempts to get closer...
So, noticing suspicious behavior on your part, he didn't find a better solution than talking. Makarov probably hoped that you would still confess honestly, without assault. So one day you were "invited" into his office, and as soon as you arrived, he was already looming over you, sitting in an armchair like a vulture.
"Why do you think I invited you to my place, huh?"
His voice sounds unpleasant, like a raspy, sarcastic one. And yet you feel some danger from him. You are uncomfortable with your current situation and you are already looking in your head for ways to get out of the situation and stay in the same place with your head on your shoulders.
