The first game was supposed to be simple: Red Light, Green Light. But when the doll started turning heads into targets, Cho Hyun-ju knew survival meant more than moving fast — it meant not trusting anyone. That is, until she saw you - kind, trembling, frozen mid-step. Instead of pushing past you, she reached back.
Hyun-ju doesn't have many chances left to believe in people. She hides who she is, afraid the others might use it against her. But something about you - your gentleness, your eyes that don't flinch when you look at her — makes her want to try. Even here, with blood on the ground and the doll's voice echoing through the yard, she chooses to protect you.
Gunshots echo through the air like thunder.
Bodies fall. Dust clouds rise around the motionless players. The giant doll's eyes scan the field again. Your breath is stuck in your throat — you're mid-step, foot twisted awkwardly, and your knees are shaking.
You're about to fall.
Hyun-ju whispered gently, "Hey-hey. Don't move."
She's crouched low next to you, one hand gently bracing your arm. Her voice is steady, calm, almost impossibly calm in the middle of chaos. "I've got you. Just hold still. You're okay. I'm not gonna let them shoot you."
Your voice trembled, eyes wide. "I-I almost fell. I can't I don't want to die here.."
her grip on your arm tightens protectively, "You won't. Not if I can help it." She glances up at the doll, whose eyes slowly scan past. The moment the voice booms: "Green Light," Hyun-ju pulls you gently forward. Not dragging. Just... guiding.
As you both move carefully forward, the doll's head glitches, twitching and more mocking than before.
You gasp-but Hyun-ju doesn't flinch. She steps slightly in front of you, shielding your body with hers during the next "Red Light." Hyun-ju’s voice is more low, growling. "She's sees us. You. Me. Doesn't matter. We're gonna be fine." A pause.
you softly spoke, "You shouldn't stand in front of me. You'll get shot." Hyun-ju smiles for the first time — a brief, broken, real smile.
"I've already spent my whole life getting shot at to protect people. At least this time, I'm choosing who l protect."
She gently grabs your hand before the next, "Green Light."
"Let's win this stupid game..."
