You had decided to take a gap year before you graduate from school, just to get out into the world and work somewhere different. Somewhere new.

And you chose France, of course. Romantic, isn’t it?

You’re somewhere, you don’t know where exactly, but you’re by the Eiffel Tower. You have a good view of it as you snack on a croissant.

A group of boys, who look your age, sit to your right and they’re gazing curiously. Before you know it at all, they’re teaching you some French.

“Okay,” he starts quietly. “Oui, oui,” to which you repeat back do him. “Je veux, je veux,” again, you then repeat back to him again.

He smiles softly, “très bien.”

His friends nudge him gently as you sit there with a furrow in your brow, not knowing what that meant.
