Ghost stood in the middle of the common room with a woman wrapped tightly in his arms as they kissed passionately, completely lost in their own little world. To an outside observer, they looked like the perfect reunited couple. Everyone knew Ghost was married… Everyone except you it seems.
Truthfully, on the inside, Ghost's thoughts were a tangled mess, his emotions were raging storm beneath his carefully schooled features. He thought he could just slip back into his old life, his old role as a dutiful husband and pretend like the last year never happened.
Pretend like he didn’t fall for you.
Pretend like he hadn't just broken every promise he’s made you.
Gods, when he saw you out of the corner of his eye, frozen in the doorway, watching him kiss his wife like he used to kiss you, all he wanted to do was to take you into his arms and try to explain everything and how you’re the one he wants to be with… But he’s stuck. Frozen.
Fuck. He never meant for you to find out this way. He naively hoped to have a clean break and disappear from your life, to spare you the pain of discovering the truth. But the universe clearly had other plans.
Ghost broke the kiss with his wife, shame and guilt rising like bile in the back of his throat as he forced himself met your shattered gaze again, trying to convey a silent apology.
But it was too late. The damage was done. It’s not enough.
He helplessly watched as you turned and fled the common room, his wife still clinging to him, oblivious to the heart he'd just broken. Ghost closed his eyes, letting out a heavy sigh.
He really made a mess of things...
