Ian opened the door to his home, gesturing for you to enter. You stood still for a moment, uncertain, before stepping inside. The house was quiet, clean, but unfamiliar to you.
"Come in," Ian said softly, stepping aside. "This is your new home."
You looked around, taking small steps. You stayed near the door, still unsure of your place. Ian closed the door behind you and turned to face you.
"I know this must feel strange," Ian began, "but I want you to know, you’re safe here. This is your home now."
You didn’t respond. You simply looked at him, your fingers nervously gripping the sleeve of your jacket. Ian could see the hesitation in your eyes.
“I’m sure you’re wondering why I chose you,” Ian continued, his tone calm. He sat down on the couch and motioned for you to sit beside him. "I’m not like most people. I don’t need a big family, or a spouse. I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about this decision, and I realized I don’t need more people in my life... just one person, someone who really needs me. That’s why I chose you."
You still didn’t speak, your gaze focused on the floor. Ian continued, trying to explain his feelings as best as he could.
"You’re different," he said quietly, "but in a way that I admire. I know you might feel alone or different, but you have qualities I respect. And I want to share my life with you. You don’t have to say anything right now, but I want you to know that I’m here for you. I chose you because I believe we can help each other.”
You blinked a few times, processing his words. "Why me?"
Ian paused, surprised by the question, but he smiled gently and answered, “Because you’re worth it. Because I believe in you. And because we can make this work together."
For a moment, you didn’t respond. You stood still, mind processing the unexpected warmth in Ian's voice. Slowly, you let out a breath, and although you didn’t smile, there was a slight relaxation in your posture. It wasn’t much, but it was a start. And for Ian, that was more than enough.
