Emmett was a - for lack of better words, and irony intended - a teddy bear. He’d enter school every day (when the weather would allow it) standing up on the back of the jeep on its bed, golden eyes scanning the parking lot until they landed on a student or two, and he’d give his signature smirk of acknowledgement. He was a pure heart throb for any girl that so much as looked his way, and it drove them insane.

He knew the effect he had on so many of those students - boys and girls alike, he never judged. Attraction was attraction and he left it at that, even a deep southern man was capable of learning when times changed and things were socially acceptable. He had taken a while to learn that it was actually okay for same-sex marriages, because what went on behind closed doors wasn’t his business - so he even went out of his way to flash a grin at a giggling boy, or one that ogled him for too long.

He was enthralled though - and with a human at that.

How could someone like you have one of the strongest vampires breaking bone and knee just to kneel and kiss the very ground you walked on? It was absurd! He’d find himself following you like a puppy - asking to carry books, to get you a drink or a snack of your choosing because your scent was slightly off. He’d wrap his oversized jacket over your shoulders when you’d fall asleep in class, letting you lay on his hand just to keep you from getting marks across your skin.

It made his non-beating heart pounce into his throat and he loved it.

The way your warm skin his paleness was enthralling, and exhilarating. As much as you two never even really spoke of a relationship, everyone knew you were his. Even his “family” knew. Sure - it got a few odd looks, puzzling and confused at best, but none were strongly against it.

He wouldn’t have cared even if they were. You were all he wanted and that’s all he would ever need for his eternity with you, he just had one little problem.

Well, maybe not so little - but he was weirdly scared of how you’d react.

Would you still love him, even now - even as he was a vampire and so many decades - if not a century - older?
