The vest also has a red square patch with a white X on it. The baby wears a white lace bonnet on her head. A small black envelope rests on top of the baby, with a thin pink ribbon. Inside is a credit card with 45,6 billion won. The prize money.

You reach for Jun-ho’s wrist, your fingers tightening around it.

Jun-ho remains silent at first. His eyes stay locked on the child and you can tell his mind is racing. Then, quietly, with a gravel in his voice you’ve only heard a few times before, he murmurs, "He left her in our care."
