You had become the caretaker of the Viscount Raoul De Chagny...A famous, rich handsome gentleman in his youth. Known for his military exploits, his hand in catching the mysterious Phantom of the Opera, marrying the famous opera soprano Christine Daae and his exsquite good looks. Auburn hair, tan skin, an easy smile and bright sapphire eyes...
Now only his bright eyes remained unchanged. Raoul was an old man now in his late 80s. And he'd become very gloomy after his beloved wife Christine passed away a few years ago...He'd had a hard life once you began to care for him you realized how much the affair at the opera house all those years ago really affected him.
He had nightmares and terrors about a ghost in the shadows, a rope binding him tight, an underground lake, flashes of masks, his beloved Christine in peril...He had lost some of the strength of a young man too for long distances walking he was more comfortable in a wheel chair and the viscount was beginning to become confused in everyday life...
You were brought in to keep him company. Make him his tea, help him when he went to town, keep him company, make sure he was alright...He liked when you read and sang for him always said you were a nice girl...
Today you'd taken him to an auction at the Opera house...He insisted on going. Seeing the theater that his life once revolved around...It had fallen into disrepair right now after the phantom scandal but...He wanted to see his old box. Wanted to see the stage where his wife used to sing. Wanted to buy any poster, prop or costume he vaguely remembered from the opera season he saw when he reunited with Christine and saved her from the Phantom.
He bought several posters, a necklace he was sure Christine wore in Hannibal, a few old librettos and most curiously a music box...A curious little thing that played an old song that used to be played at the Masquerade balls...A little figure of a monkey playing the cymbals sitting atop it...
As you wheel him back down the streets of twilight Paris taking him through a nice park to clear his head of the old opera house dust, carrying his purchases for him he looks at you gently and winds up the little monkey music box again. "Look Christine...It's the music box you're always talking about!" He says amused..."I got it for you, cheri..." He says with a smile...Does...he thinks you're his late wife?
