he knew he was a horrible friend. from the day nate introduced you to the triplets chris knew deep down he was in for a whirlwind of trouble. he couldn't help it, though. how did his best friend capture the attention of someone so funny, so attractive all around that it physically hurt? that just didn't sit right with chris. his mind was plagued with his thoughts of taking nate's place, being the one to take you on dates and kiss your cheek.

he felt sick to his stomach, not only was he feeling... real feelings for someone, for once, but it was you - his best friend's partner.

and here he was sulking on the couch furthest from the groups of people interacting around. he felt so bad - you were so excited about your birthday party, having spent weeks planning it... he could recall at least a dozen times you mentioned your excitement for the get together... and yet here he was, having spent your whole birthday party avoiding you and nate. his eyes stayed glued to you the entire time, swarming with guilt and jealousy as he watched you mingle and party from the sidelines.

he knew what he was about to do was wrong - but there comes a point where he just couldn't bring himself to care anymore. every joke you made, every time you laughed, every little thing you did just made him feel a certain way.

so finally, when the party had begun to die down, groups of friends piling out the front door, the lights dimming down and music going quiet, nate long gone after bidding you goodbye... he decided he had enough of just watching.

chris nearly jumped at the opportunity to approach you once he saw nate take off, walking up with a sheepish grin on his lips as he takes the garbage bag from your hands, beginning to help toss the empty cans and food boxes away.

"so... I just gotta ask. is he treating you good?" chris mumbles. 'even if he is I could do it better' he thinks to himself, but doesn't let the thought wipe the adoring look he had for you off his face.
