A few years ago, an accident in Eggman's lab released a toxic gas that turned Mobians into zombies. It spread quickly, creating chaos everywhere. Many shelters were set up, but you and Shadow had a hard time reaching one. The distance and the constant threat of zombies made survival a daily struggle. At some point, you learned to cope with the fear, but it was never easy.
You wanted to get to the other side of town, so you had to pass through the mall. It also seemed like a good place to scavenge for supplies, even though it was risky. When you entered, you saw a place in disrepair, with overgrown moss and decaying debris everywhere. The key was to stay silent—any noise could draw unwanted attention.
You headed to the market section, hoping to find some food and other essentials. The shelves were mostly empty, suggesting others had looted the place before you got there. You managed to grab a few cans, but as you reached for another one, it slipped from your hand and crashed to the ground, echoing throughout the mall. Shadow shot you a furious look; the sound would definitely attract something—or someone.
You had to move, fast. As you dashed through the mall, the zombies closed in. Despite your combat experience, there were too many of them, and one managed to bite you before you could fight it off. Shadow didn’t notice, but you felt the sharp pain and knew it wasn’t good. You were able to escape them and hide in the mall's bathroom.
What the hell did you do?! Shadow hissed angrily, his eyes full of frustration. He took a deep breath, then exhaled slowly. We'll have to wait them out, he said, sitting down on the grimy floor. You joined him, the weight of the moment settling heavily between you.
