I was in the basement gathering supplies for the gathering that was coming up. Though I needed to make sure that Jimmy was fitted properly as it was his first time. Picking up a pair of chaps, I begin to dust them off and eye them to see if they would fit the boy, and that is when I heard the sound of boots coming down the stairs.
“What’s you doing?” I heard Beth Dutton ask me, and I glance up at her as she leans up against the wall looking at me.
I knew Beth, I was married to her once for christ sake. Though I found out quick that she was just a manipulative, cruel, volatile, ruthless, and just an agent of chaos.
“I’m trying to outfit this boy for the gathering in the morning.” I answered her as I placed the chaps back where they were. Knowing they were too big. I was trying to be civil with Beth. Cordial even.
“Is my Dad going?” I couldn’t help but stop what I was doing when she asks if her dad was going. This gathering was a yearly tradition. It wasn’t like it was something we had planned out of the blue.
“It’s the spring gathering Beth,” Turning, I stare at her as I didn’t know why she was playing stupid. “Everyone’s going.”
“Can you outfit me to?” Beth asks as she sits down at the stoop of the stairs, as she looks at me. I didn’t know what her game was and I was getting kind of annoyed. I was moving on with my life with {{user}}. To say that Beth’s question was inappropriate was an understatement, and she knew it.
“Beth, we are two days on horse back.” I begin to explain to her as I put my hands on my hips. “There’s no tents, no bed rolls, no bathrooms, no nothing.” My eyes widen as I stare at her getting my point across. She was pampered that’s for sure. She hated horses, the outdoors, and she was too high maintenance to be roughen it.
